Project Overview

Basics

Forest and Community Resilience & Health
Community Wildfire Protection
Wildland Urban Interface Hazardous Fuel Reduction
North Lake Tahoe Defense Zone Improvement Project

Implementation
The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District (NLTFPD) will reduce hazardous fuels on 210-620 acres and plan for additional hazardous fuels removal on federal and non-federal lands in the wildland-urban interface of Incline Village and Crystal Bay, NV to mitigate the wildfire risk to the community and improve forest health. The project will be accompanied by two public outreach activities that will showcase fuels reduction treatments and provide education on forest health, fuels treatments, and Fire Adapted Community concepts. These activities will create a better informed and more prepared Fire Adapted Community in Incline Village and Crystal Bay, NV, an area with extreme wildfire risk.

Notes

01/14/2025 3:26 PM System In 2024 129 acres received wildfire mitigation treatments. 71.8 acres were treated utilizing hand thinning, and 57.3 acres were treated utilizing mastication. Treatments occurred on public and privately owned property within the Defense Zone of Incline Village and Crystal Bay NV..
12/22/2023 1:41 PM System Project implementation began in 2023. Hand thinning operations were conducted on five privately owned parcels totaling 42.5 acres. An addition 14.5 acres was hand thinned on public lands. During November 2023 a 19.8 Acre understory burn was conducted on IVGID land. A total of 76.8 acres was treated for wildfire fuels reduction in 2023 as part of the SNPLMA Rd. 18 Defense Zone Improvement project.
03/14/2022 9:05 AM System The footprint displayed for this project represents the entire area where treatments may take place. As treatments take place the footprint will be updated to reflect the areas that actually received treatment. It is likely that fuels reduction treatments for this project do not begin until the 2023 field season.
