Pillars of Resilience

Back to all Pillars of Resilience

Fire Dynamics

Fire is essential to Sierra Nevada forest ecosystems, which have evolved with it. Ideally, prescribed fires and managed wildfires would burn periodically across large areas at low to moderate severity, benefiting ecology.

The goal is for fire to burn in a way that benefits ecology and is socially acceptable, maintaining landscape diversity and rarely posing threats to human safety or infrastructure.
