Yankee Jim's Bridge replacement offsite mitigation plan foothill yellow-legged frog habitat

  • Mechanical and Manual Removal

Planning/Design
Along approximately 2.8 miles of Upper Shirttail Creek, habitat enhancements will consist of removing trees and vegetation that create dense canopy cover over Upper Shirttail Creek to improve foothill yellow-legged frog (FYLF) basking and breeding habitat. The goal of enhancement is to promote or maintain canopy cover that results in beneficial water temperature for FYLF.

Pillars of Resilience

Pillars of Resilience

Pre-work conditions along Upper Shirttail Creek include overshading of the creek. foothill yellow-legged frogs (FYLF) populations respond favorably to habitat heterogeneity, with the highest numbers of individuals being found in areas where sunlight reaches the forest floor. The goal of this habitat enhancement is to promote or maintain an amount and distribution of canopy cover that results in beneficial water temperature for foothill yellow-legged frogs.
The project will enhance streamside habitat for foothill yellow-legged frogs. Other riparian species may experience habitat benefit as well.
