Tunnel Creek Alternative Trail

Implementation
The Tunnel Creek Alternative Trail is a Nevada Division of State Parks project, with partners such as Nevada Division of State Lands, Tahoe Fund, Great Basin Institute, and TAMBA. This 2.28-mile single-track trail starts at Tunnel Creek canyon's base, linking indirectly to the Tahoe East Shore Trail and the Incline Flume Trail. It addresses public safety issues on the congested, sandy, and steep Tunnel Creek road, responsible for many bike accidents every year. The trail will be built in two phases, expected to be completed by fall 2025.

Notes

12/16/2024 11:41 AM System Sierra Trail Works was selected to continue the trail construction, breaking ground in late summer 2024, constructing 2,100 feet of the trail. During the winter of 2024/2025, the contractor will be mapping out the second half of the trail. Construction is scheduled to resume in the summer of 2025, with completion anticipated by late summer or early fall 2025.
01/09/2024 4:38 PM System Trail construction began this summer and the first mile of the trail is complete from the state park boundary to the first major switchback of the Tunnel Creek Road. Great Basin institute is funded to complete Phase 1 approximately 1 additional miles. Nevada State Parks is preparing to go to contract for phase 2 this spring and hire a crew to finish the trail. The goal is to complete this project during the summer of 2024.
01/19/2023 4:29 PM System Environmental clearances were completed this fall and the project is on track to break ground this summer. Materials for bridges have been purchased and are staged at the project site.
01/06/2022 3:07 PM System 2021 expenditure is related to trail brushing that was done in the fall. Full construction is anticipated for spring 2022.
