Road Maintenance/Decommissioning

Back to all Strategies

Summarize accomplishments from:

Basics

Water Security and Riparian Heath
Hydrologic Integrity
Road Maintenance/Decommissioning

Strategy Description

This strategy involves regular inspection and maintenance of roads to prevent erosion, sedimentation, and other water quality issues resulting from inadequate drainage or surface erosion. Projects under this strategy may include repairing drainage structures, stabilizing road surfaces, installing erosion control measures such as culverts or gabions, and revegetating road shoulders to prevent soil erosion. Additionally, where roads are deemed unnecessary or environmentally damaging, decommissioning efforts may involve restoring disturbed areas to their natural state, removing road infrastructure, and implementing measures to minimize soil disturbance and erosion.
