Hazardous Fuel Reduction Surrounding Water Delivery Infrastructure
Implementation
The Tahoe Water for Fire Suppression partnership is a collaborative effort among 17 water service agencies within the Tahoe Basin focused on projects that critical water infrastructure and enhancing fire suppression capability. Following completion of the basin-wide Vegetation Management Plan (completed by another project), this project consists of the implementation phase that advances fuels reduction activities at priority water delivery infrastructure sites identified across the Basin. The Plan identified 39 critical facilities managed by STPUD, TCPUD, and NTPUD. Project activities include tree removal, tree thinning, and brush removal to reduce wildfire risk.

Notes
| 01/15/2026 3:45 PM | Jonason Ho | The California Conservation Corps (CCC) has begun work on this project. They have completed defensible space work on three of the thirty-nine facilities. | ||
| 08/18/2025 4:47 PM | System | Correction made to the financial information and the expenditures. | ||
| 08/13/2025 4:24 PM | System | 7/28/2025: STPUD secured funding in the amount of $417,514 from the CTC to implement fuels reduction activities outlined in the VMP on non-USFS land. This work will be complete by 12/31/2026. | ||
| 01/17/2025 2:57 PM | System | 2024 Update: Fuels reduction planning is complete, and implementation work will begin in spring 2025. |
||
| 01/25/2024 12:31 PM | System | 2023 Update: Implementation of the fuels reduction work is dependent upon the completion of the Fuels Treatment at Critical Infrastructure Sites project (Vegetation Management Plan) 02.01.01.0127 - Fuels Treatment at Critical Infrastructure Sites. Once that project is complete, fuels reduction work on identified land will begin and continue through summer 2025. |
||
| 01/17/2023 9:21 AM | System | The next phase of this project is to complete a Vegetation Management Plan (VMP) for the priority infrastructure treatment sites identified in the 2021 FVA on the California side. A Registered Professional Forester will be contracted to develop a VMP that will include treatment plans for each high-priority site. STPUD, TCPUD, NTPUD, and Lukins Brothers Water Company will use the VMP for fuel reduction/defensible space planning and implementation. |
