Riparian Zone Restoration
Floodplain Re-connection
Wilson Ranch is a 90-acre meadow located at 6,600 feet in the Eldorado National Forest. Before restoration, both the tributary and main channel were incised with unstable and eroding banks, and conifers had encroached into the meadow. American Rivers partnered with the Eldorado National Forest to restore the meadow’s hydrologic and ecosystem processes. In 2023 and 2024, a vented ford at the top of the meadow was replaced with a series of culverts, the incised tributary channel was filled with native soil, and boulder weirs were installed in south fork Silver Creek at the bottom of the meadow. The restoration will improve restore floodplain connectivity and improve wet meadow habitat.
