Riparian Zone Restoration
Hydrologic Process & Geomorphic Feature Restoration
To restore portions of New York Creek the project will entail removing sediment loads, stabilizing the bank and headcuts, controlling invasive weeds, removing beaver dams, and mosquito vector control. Additionally, impervious area disconnections and culvert cleaning will occur. Stormwater will be treated and captured at various locations along the creek with ecologically based stormwater treatment technologies. If possible, there will be bioretention and rain garden systems. Swales will be added along the creek wherever there is a road nearby or in close proximity to an urbanized area. Trees and other vegetation will be planted along the creek. Low impact development approaches will be used.
